I just bought the Ipegtop MK808. Im following the instructions exactly. I press the reset button with a paperclip for 15 secs and I can feel it depress. and I plug it in via OTG and a known good cable to my windows 7 computer and it never even glimmers that it sees it. Doesnt ask for drivers, doesnt show up in device manager as an unknown device.

The MK808 works fine when I plug it in to a HDMI display and the OTG port works fine as it accepts my mouse and keyboard just fine.

So, whats the next step?

Welcome to the forum ta2025!
As I mentioned in the video getting the usb drivers is the hardest part. You need to reset (with paper clip) at the right time for windows to see it. Keep trying, use different usb ports on your computer. Good luck! Let us know if you still can't get it.

Hi Max Powers,
first of all thank you very much for this great forum. Here is a question I am sure many visitors of this site have in mind. Many of us are visiting your forum before making our purchasing decission. I did and ordered MK808 from China. Should I go ahead and use it as it comes or do certain updates, tinkering etc. when I recive it. It is supposed to come with JB, RK3066. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums iozturkecon!!
If your device comes and it works well for you then keep it where it's at. It all depends on how "Techie" you are and how much you want to do. We have rooted, rommed, modified, these devices for many reasons.
The main reason is because people were receiving their devices with 4.0 ICS, outdated firmware, and hardware issues.
Yes the MK808 is suppossed to ship with JB 4.1, but depending on where you buy it from affects what device and firmware you will get.
Once you get your MK808, test it and let us know how it works and if you need any assistance with it, that's why this forum is here :)

Hello everyone.
Just to confirm. I have the MK808 and I just did the Beta mk808_box_300j1 update and voila! the 1080p view is now the way it's supposed to be!. The wi-fi is faster and most important, I can use the shutdown and restart app with no problems. Wooo Hooo finally a fully functional and fun mini-pc! I am so happy with it!
Here is the link... PS: You still need to follow the above instructions and download both packages, just replace the fw rom with this one:

Which file is the best to use? The one packaged on the first page or the Beta mk808_box_300j1 as mentioned above.

I received yesterday and I think is come to the last firmware = mk808_300j1_27-10-2012
When I put the HDMI in 1080p, the screen flashes. So I changed the original cable by new one HDM v1.3 cable and all ok now.

Hey All,
Great forum Max, I have been on quite regularly since reviving my MK808.
Quick question and pardon my ignorance ( i'm a newbie ) What is the difference between the firm ware and ROM??? Are they different things?
I have the wonderful Wifi problem .. Does one of these fix it??
Cheers

Hey guys,
Im use a Mac for my main computer, and wonder if theres a similar ROM flashing utility for the Mac?

ALso, couldnt you just load the .rar file onto an sdcard and launch it locally on the device?

Im new the "deeper side" of Android with rooting and all.. Kinda scared I'll ruin the device.

THanks for any help

Is firmware = mk808_300j1_27-10-2012 the latest firmware available? My unit shows that as the installed Build number out of the box, but the WIFI drops out and video loading is slow to non-existent. Trying to figure out where to start in troubleshooting.

Respose to POST #21

I have exaclt the same problem, windows PC just does not know that the MK808 is connected on the USB.

the MK808 has OS version 4.1.1
kernel 3.0.8+ ifwang_v_300j1#10 SMP PREEMPT Fri Oct 26 08:59:55 CST 2012
build no mk808_300j1_27-10-2012

can connect to PC via wireless, using several progs, including Moborobo, but nothing on the USB. tried swapping around the USB ports on the MK808, all seem to work for mouse, keyboard, airmouse, card reader etc; BUT DOES NOT SHOW in the device manager.

If i attach a phone to the USB on the PC, goes off to find and install the drivers. Guess that the android just being silent about it presence. tried 'connect to PC' in the settings.

anyone been through this and solved it yet? maybe something in the latest android firmware? can people post there firmware version and say if they were sucessful or failed to connect to MK808 via USB and if device manager detected the MK808

HAVE SOLVED IT
MK808 does not talk to the PC until it is set into 'flash mode', either with the reset button or by a software command. all the forums I had read seemed to imply it should be chatting on the OTG port all the time; was reluctant to press the reset (as system was not rooted and could not reboot to the bootloader) until i knew i could update via the USB cable. was forced into it as the unit bricked itself somewhere with all the powerups etc and stuck on the android flash screen.

have reloaded a 'rooted' set of firmware, actually 2 lots, different loaders via USB cable. can also update (partiel) by putting the image file onto the sdcard (either internal or external), system will then detect it and ask if you want to load. still looking into what each part of the system does, but will get to grips with it soon.

hope this may help a fellow 'noobie'
for ref - systems were the finless 1.6 and the JB4.1.2 dated december

I had a problem installing/flashing.Here it is solved:

At the "Driver install" guide in the included instructions it says:

"12) No matter what, reboot the PC now. Also unplug the mk808 and let it reboot"

i always got stuck there.after the reboot mk808 could not be recognized. So the 5th time i did not restart my pc and skipped that step.

I hope that helped someone
